Macclesfield District General Hospital Orthopaedics Entrance
East Cheshire NHS Trust tasked ADC to create a new more accessible, eco-friendly entrance way at their orthopaedics unit at Macclesfield hospital, East Cheshire NHS Trust tasked ADC to create a new more accessible, eco-friendly entrance way at their orthopaedics unit at Macclesfield hospital. The original 2 sets of power swing automatic doors were in very close proximity to each other and often opened together resulting in a huge loss of heat from the building. A wind tunnel effect swept through the reception and waiting area causing it to be a cold, unpleasant environment for both patients and staff.
To combat this, ADC moved the internal door further into the building and created a lobby by extending off the building. This meant that by the time the user had reached the inner doors, the outer doors had closed, massively reducing heat loss and creating a more pleasant environment for the occupants. It was important for the hospital that their entrance way was DDA compliant and easily accessible for all staff, patients and visitors.
When carrying out ground works, ADC consulted a structural engineer to assist with structural designs. New steel works were required to create the new lobby area off the exterior of the building and a new roof light installed.

“The Automatic Door Company (ADC) were asked to quote for the contract to maintain the Auto Doors at East Cheshire NHS Trust in 2014, which has been carried out to an exceptional standard. During this period ADC have also replaced two doors to the entrance to our A&E, these doors have changed the appearance and functionality of the A&E. ADC have also carried out the installation to the entrance to Orthopaedics unit, this has changed the waiting area for the better and the waiting area is now more comfortable for patients and staff. Over all ADC have worked to a high standard and I look forward to working with ADC in the future.”
